Consultis, a premier Technical Staffing Company and Executive Search Firm with the single focus of pairing the right candidate with the right employment opportunity is currently searching for a VP of Software Engineering for a Direct Hire opportunity (FTE) with our South Florida based client.

Position Overview:

In this critical leadership role you will work with the CTO and report directly to the CEO. This engineering leader will have a proven record of building high performance software development teams. You will combine superb hands-on technical skills and accelerate the team’s delivery and quality. As a key executive within the company, you will also play a strategic role to develop effective product strategies that ensure financial success. They need someone who is high energy, trusted, and process-oriented engineering leader who knows how to apply best practices across all development functions. You must have experience leading engineering organizations through expansive growth, and implemented a low friction, high velocity software development life cycle. Someone who naturally earns respect and authority through a genuine commitment to the personal well-being and professional development of their teams, combined with obvious intellectual horsepower, technical acumen, strong communication skills and relevant experience.


  • Drive successful project and product execution using the Agile development model (scrums, sprints, kanban, etc.) while maintaining pragmatic engineering best practices (e.g. code reviews, testing, continuous delivery);
  • Drive and manage automated unit and regression testing systems and processes;
  • Develop with project and business stakeholders KPIs and successfully measure and report those KPIs to support the development of product timelines, commitments and long term development strategies;
  • Involved in the direction of the day to day activities of the engineering organization, consisting of fourteen talented Software Engineers, QA analysts and Data Analysts;
  • Provides hands-on technical direction based on the architecture design of the CTO for all engineering projects – evaluating options, making decisions, and evaluating results to ensure customer value.

  • Proven experience in setting up, measuring, communicating and creating transparent dashboards to reflect the KPI of the development project life cycle;
  • Proven experience in successfully implementing and managing automated unit and regression testing systems and processes;
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. AWS) desirable;
  • Experience building database-driven applications and web sites;
  • Proven experience of MVC Frameworks, Unix Command Line Interface, Unit Testing and working with APIs;
  • Experience hand-coding HTML4/HTML5, Advanced JavaScript/AJAX, jQuery, MySQL, PHP based on web standards and best practices for scalability and accessibility;
  • Deep knowledge of technology advances and complex data platforms, providing opportunity for peak performance and application scalability;
  • Knowledge of optimizing PHP using Cache, etc.;

Required Qualification or Skills:

  • Strong experience creating and or rapidly expanding development operations, systems, and practices in a respected software product development company
  • Proven ability to define a clear vision and roadmap that is challenging, but achievable and motivating to your team.
  • Track record of exceptional personal results, routinely setting and meeting commitments that are a stretch for others.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Agile development practices, and ability to evaluate the quality of a team and a manager’s agile practices. Scrum Master Certification desired;
  • 10+ years’ experience delivering software products used by external end-users (not just internal users), ideally in a creative software area, and with experience across two or more of server, web/SaaS, desktop, and mobile;
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in setting up, measuring, communicating and creating transparent dashboards to reflect the KPI of the development project life cycle;
  • Knowledge of web application architecture and relational database design;
  • Knowledge of the data layer (writing SQL queries and/or store procedures);
  • Knowledge of Big Data Analytics;
  • Strong knowledge of OOP, design Patterns, NoSql, NodeJS;
  • Strong Framework experience: Zend /Cake PHP / Symfony / Symfony Framework experience (Zend Framework is a huge plus);
  • Experience with WEB services (SOAP and REST);
  • Experience with common Unix shells & utilities (bash, grep, sed, awk, etc);
  • Need to be an Agile and lean practitioner, and continually look for ways to reduce cycle times and improve team performance and drive engineering performance;
