Job Description

The primary responsibility for the Linux Operations Engineer I will be to ensure reliable and efficient production operations of our hosted environments. This role will include daily maintenances and monitoring to ensure server availability, performance, and capacity. This role also includes responding and resolution to incidents, engineering and implementation of server changes, as well as documenting procedures. In this role you will be working with large server farms and working to automate those systems. This position will involve working with team members to administer Linux systems on tasks such as OS installs, OS/Software updates, Virtual Machine provisioning, hardware maintenance, user support, troubleshooting, hardware and software configuration, backups; and ensuring system stability. Critical success factors for this position will be associated technical skills and experience in Linux operating systems, teamwork, and problem solving.

Job Duties:

  • Work with others to maintain redundancy and uptime across systems to meet SLAs.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance with continued benchmarking analysis.
  • Respond to emergency operational needs.
  • Create, document, and build IT resources for customer consumption.
  • Develop scripts/web-tools for automating Operations and customer support common issues and procedures (tools to improve first-call resolution, etc).
  • Follow and develop prescribed procedures and document work performed.
  • Exercise independent judgment and skills to apply high level troubleshooting and diagnosis effectively, providing timely, accurate solutions to issues.
  • Work mainly in a reactive or supportive role while they developing skills and broadening experience
  • Execute specific operational tasks to achieve project goals with guidance from senior coworkers

Job Requirements:

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of
    • OSes and distributions, patching, monitoring, backups
    • RAID, hardware, virtualization, networking
    • firewalls, load balancing, storage security, high availability, root cause analysis, systems optimization
    • APIs, Shell Scripting (python, bash, PowerShell)
    • SSL, Web servers (IIS, Apache), auth/directory services, caching services
  • Intermediate Troubleshooting abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field required or equivalent experience
  • RHCE or equivalent experience/certification
  • 2+ years relevant experience
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Creative and collaborative team player
  • Ownership and follow-up skills
  • Ability to respond effectively under pressure
