Applicant will be responsible for assisting with the development and configuration of vRealize in our environment. This is a primary and most important goal. Secondarily, this person will assist our Senior Linux staff with installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux & Windows servers including web servers, proxy servers, DNS/BIND servers, mail servers, application servers and database servers. (MS SQL, Oracle, NoSQL, others) Also responsible for optimizing system performance and protecting the company from risk and data loss; performing software installations, patches and upgrades to Linux systems and maintaining them in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements. A secondary responsibility of all members of this team is to automate wherever possible, repetitive tasks to improve efficiency, and complex tasks to ensure consistency.

We have only one Linux expert on staff - the applicant will be expected to assist in routine Linux operations at first, and take over more complex Linux operations later as directed. Applicant needs to be well versed with both Windows, and Unix/Linux.  Looking for the following basic skillsets:

  •   Programming and Scripting skills (BASH, PERL, Python, etc.) – this is a priority for our automation goals.
  •   VIM, IPTABLES, Putty, Proxies such as Squid, etc. – Linux competency is a must
  •   RPM & YUM, configuring, patching, updating – this is priority for our customer’s application support.
  •   File system Features: Attributes, Creating, Checking, Mounting, types of file systems
  •   Open-Source Tools for Windows/Linux
  •   Creating images for deployment in a virtual environment (VMware, vRealize) – this is a priority for VMware/vRealize
  •   May assist developers with troubleshooting their applications via logs, killing/restarting applications, etc.
  •   Able to work in a Mixed-Platform Environment (Windows/Linux/Hyper-converged Appliances, etc.)
  •   Good working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, and other popular protocols
  •   Nice to have, but not necessary:
    •     Linux professional institute LPIC-1, 2 or 3 certification
    •     Microsoft MCSE and other MS certifications
    •     College degree/certificate in computer science or equivalent
    •    RHCSA certification - Intense School's RHCSA Boot Camp (Red Hat Linux)

Candidate Profile

•         Bachelor's degree in related field from a four-year ABET accredited college or university with four to six years of relevant Computer experience preferred. Interactive Voice Response (IVR) experience is a plus.

•         Incumbents at this level must be familiar with all aspects of information technologies including: hardware, software, operating systems, network protocols and have familiarity with scripting languages such as PERL, Python, PowerShell, VB Script, PHP, etc.

•         Experience with datacenter operations such as racking & stacking, cable & Power management, able to follow documentation & specifications from system designers. Make recommendations for improvement. Must be physically able to lift up to 50lbs and work within computer cabinets for these tasks.

•         Experience in networking, Active Directory and Group Policy, DHCP, and DNS is required. Should be comfortable troubleshooting with associated network tools for TCP capture such as Wireshark, etc.

•         Experience with HP Tools such as HPOV, HPSA, etc is desirable but not required.

•         Proven competency in the ongoing support of VMware virtual environments with an emphasis on virtual machine creation and migration, VMotion, Virtual SAN and other VMware products. vRealize competency is a must.

•         Knowledge of, or experience in, using Microsoft Active Directory and VMware vSphere v5.5 and later is required

•         Microsoft certification in one or more server disciplines is preferred (MCSE, VMware, MCSA, MCTS, MCITP)

•         Web filtering platform experience is preferred. i.e. Linux Proxy servers

•         Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to effectively present information to internal and external associates clearly and concisely.

•         Strong Microsoft Office skills (specifically Word, PPT, Visio & Excel which are used extensively for documentation purposes.)

•         Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented business environment

•         Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership with focus on continuous improvement

•         Excellent attention to detail

•         Strong customer service disposition and sense of professionalism

•         Solid understanding of the organization's business operations and industry. Demonstrated business acumen

Software familiarization:

Knowledge with one or more of these is a plus.

•         Linux certifications such as LPIC-2&3, Linux+, AWS CSA PRO, RHCSA, Linux Essentials – Competency with Linux is required
